Why Mulch? Spreading mulch over your garden soil is the best way to save time and energy in your yard.  Mulch helps the soil hold moisture so you don’t have to water as often.  It also suppresses weeds, especially if the soil is treated with a pre-emergent weed control prior to laying the mulch.  And over time, mulches made from organic materials break down and increase your soil’s structure and fertility.
We do sell mulch by the cubic yard.  We carry two types of mulch, our standard double shredded brown mulch, and black dyed mulch.  The difference being that the dyed mulches do not breakdown as quickly as the non-dyed and the black retains its’ color for a much longer time period.  Using any mulch that does not decompose requires more fertilizers to be added to your flower beds.
Water, Water, Water We have had some long heat waves this summer.  During the days when the temperature rises unusually high, please make sure your plants have enough water to survive.  I look at them like I look at my kids, I wouldn’t sit one of them out in the hot sun all day with just a sprinkle of water.  SO water deeply, preferably first thing in the morning, normally you would do this every other day, but when the thermometer goes to 92 or higher with no rain, you should water daily.
New plantings need special monitoring they are already stressed and the heat could easily destroy them if not watered properly.  So keep an eye on your kids oh, I mean plants, give them a drink.

Low Voltage Lighting. Have you ever driven past a house at night and admired the walkway or a beautiful tree and longed for that at your own home? It was all in the lighting.

When considering improvements to your landscape don’t forget the lighting.  Outdoor low voltage lighting offers lots of benefits beyond aesthetics. It can add safety and security to your property by providing light at doorways and walkways.  It also extends the amount of time you can spend at your pool or patio by lighting up the night.

You can highlight your homes architectural features with spot lights or uplight a particularly nice specimen tree.  Lighting on water features is often used to enhance an already prominent feature.

So don’t forget outdoor lighting as part of your overall landscape plan.  We can install lighting during a project or afterwards for a finished professional touch.  Contact us today for a free consultation to “shed a little light” on your situation.

Spring has arrived! We have been doing scheduled Spring Clean ups, edging and mulching and plantings as the weather has allowed, it seems we have had an unprecidented amount of rain this April. They say April showers bring May flowers this should be some show!

You can plant all perennials right now, we might still have some frosty nights but a general rule is that you can have all annuals planted by Mothers Day. Annuals give you color for one full season, where as perennials generally have a certain bloom time, while creating interest and texture with it's foliage for the season and return year after year.

Mowing season has begun, if you can find a dry moment to get it accomplished. Make sure your blades have been sharpened for a nice clean cut, 2" is a nice height. Also if you did not apply an early spring fertilizer this could be done now.
